Overview

Líška D, Sekereš M. Ankle sprain The ankle joint represents a key structure in the biomechanics of the foot, ensuring body stability during everyday activities. Ankle sprain, most commonly lateral, is one of the most frequent injuries in sports, particularly among runners and soldiers who are exposed to demanding conditions. Ligamentous structures are most injured in ankle sprains. Ankle sprains may involve injuries to the medial, lateral, and high areas of the ankle. Following an acute ankle sprain, common symptoms such as pain, swelling, and ecchymosis are present, which can contribute to reduced mobility and function. Prolonged ankle issues can lead to functional limitations or disabilities, post-traumatic osteoarthritis, and chronic ankle instability. Rehabilitation plays a crucial role in restoring function after an ankle sprain. A well-designed rehabilitation process is also essential for preventing potential complications that may arise from this injury.
