Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality in the Czech Republic. Although the introduction of population-based screening has reduced both incidence and mortality, suboptimal participation limits its effectiveness. This article summarizes the current benefits and limitations of the screening program, highlights the crucial role of general practitioners (GPs) in patient education and appropriate system utilization, and discusses strategies to improve adherence and efficiency. Emphasis is placed on the need to dispel myths about screening, address patient concerns regarding endoscopic procedures, and ensure strict adherence to screening and surveillance guidelines. The article also points out common errors that overload the system, such as unnecessary testing after recent colonoscopy or testing in patients with overt rectal bleeding.
