Overview
The brain is a fascinating organ with exceptional functions in terms of receiving, analyzing, processing stimuli, and responding, which under physiological conditions is rapid and perfect for the immediate adaptation and flexibility of the organism. Based on this complex interplay of functions, it can be simplified to say that brain activity can influence the functioning of peripheral organs in order to ensure homeostasis of the organism, even under resting conditions. In other words, the sophistication and certain vulnerability of the complex regulatory mechanisms of “brain-organ” interaction through the autonomic nervous system presents a challenge for finding non-pharmacological interventions in the treatment of obesity as a disease in which stress plays an important role in its pathogenesis and progression.
