Overview

The quality of the work environment is closely related to job satisfaction, performance, and efficiency of the services provided. The article maps the working conditions of employees in connection with the introduction of psychiatric reform and the often-discussed high turnover of employees in psychiatric hospitals. The questionnaire survey mapped the working conditions of doctors, psychologists, and therapists in the largest psychiatric hospital in the Czech Republic. The questionnaire survey was based on the CARe methodology. The questionnaire survey showed that insufficient communication significantly contributes to staff turnover. Therefore, lack of communication was further investigated in the subsequent three phases of the project. In the first phase, separate groups of primary care physicians, senior physicians, secondary physicians, psychologists, and therapists identified all staff communication needs. In the second phase, based on the named communication needs, a cross-sectional communication questionnaire was compiled. The questionnaire showed the main deficit areas of communication. In the third phase, solutions to the main deficit areas of communication were proposed to reduce staff turnover. The third phase took place in the form of brainstorming by a multidisciplinary team. All three phases indicate the possible origin of communication deficits in the way of implementation of psychiatric care reform into practice.
