Overview
The thyroid cancers are the 5th most common tumours in young age groups of our population. The most of these cancers are treated with long term complete remission lasting several decades of life. Eighty percent patients with diagnosed differentiated thyroid cancer exhibit 40 years survival. A survey of essential variants of thyroid tumours and their therapeutic options is provided. Special attention is paid to molecular genetic methods applied in both diagnosis and treatment of these tumours. The case of a rare variant of thyroid cancer is reported and an employment of novel methods in clinical practice and their contribution to new diagnostic and therapeutic procedures is demonstrated.
