Overview

Objective: Compulsive sexual behavior disorder (CSBD) is classified in the 11th revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) as an impulse control disorder. Although this is a clinically important issue, no screening method has been available in the Czech Republic to capture compulsive sexual behavior (CSB) specifically in the context of online pornography consumption. The aim of the study is to map the prevalence of symptoms of CSBD in the Czech adult population with a focus on online pornography consumption. The article also aims to provide screening criteria for the assessment of these symptoms in the Czech environment. Methods: In order to meet the aim, a quantitative research design was applied. Respondents were recruited using a non-probabilistic self-selection sampling method. Research was promoted and published through online social media. Data were collected by filling in an online questionnaire. The Compulsive Pornography Use Scale (CPUS-4) was used for data collection. The scale applies the symptoms of CSBD as defined in the 11th revision of the International Classification of Diseases and specifically targets online pornography consumption. The sample consisted of 1005 respondents from the Czech adult population aged 18 to 45 years, of whom 365 were men (36.3%) and 640 were women (63.7%). Results: Compared to women, men showed higher mean scores on the CSBD symptom scale in the context of pornography use. Focusing on individual symptoms, men showed higher experience in all four domains studied compared to women (P < 0.001), with the smallest difference between men and women in the third item targeting viewing pornography without providing significant satisfaction to the user. Conclusion: The article presents the descriptive results on compulsive pornography consumption obtained by applying the CPUS-4 method in the Czech adult population. Although men had a higher mean score on the CPUS-4, we recommend that future research also focus on problem pornography consumption in women, where this issue is less well studied.
