Solitary Fibrous Tumor of Meninges – a Case Report

Overview

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT), first described as a pleural lesion, has been reported in a wide range of anatomic sites including meninges. SFTs of the central nervous system represent very rare spindle-cell mesenchymal neoplasms that usually present as the dura mater-based masses. The biological behavior of extrathoracic SFTs is unpredictable, meningeal SFTs possess malignant potential so that a careful, long-term follow up is required.

The authors have given a case of the totally resected large intracranially localised SFT of meninges clinically resembling meningioma. Immunohistochemistry has proved its important role in the differential diagnosis of this tumor and supported the morphological diagnosis of SFT.
