Differential diagnosis of hyponatraemia

Overview

Hyponatraemia is common in clinical practice. This article summarises the principal mechanisms of natremia regulation and causes of decreased sodium level. The diagnostic approach in patients with hyponatraemia is discussed and basic principles of its treatment are summarised.
